Nara Bhuvaneshwari’s ‘joke’ to retire Naidu and contest from Kuppam turns ammo for YSRCP

A comment by Nara Bhuvaneshwari, intended to be a ‘joke’, at a TDP event inadvertently turned into ammo for YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

Nara Bhuvaneshwari, wife of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday, 21 February speaking at the “Nijam Gelavali” yatra in Kuppam joked about wishing to contest from the constituency.

Chandrababu Naidu, the chief of TDP has been representing Kuppam in the Legislative Assembly for 35 years.

Her statements have caused a stir, as the ruling YSRCP has claimed that Bhuvaneshwari herself was suggesting that Chandrababu Naidu should retire.

From a longer interaction of 1 minute and 35 seconds, the YSRCP has shared a 20-second clip to claim that Bhuvaneshwari was batting for Naidu’s retirement.

Sharing the 20-second clip from the whole speech of Bhuvaneshwari, where she is heard saying that she wishes to run from Kuppam instead of Chandrababu Naidu, the YSRCP party cadre had been claiming that the former chief minister’s wife herself is suggesting he take retirement from active politics.

Sharing the clip on X with the hashtag end of TDP, the YSRCP claimed that even the party cadre are rejoicing the announcemnt.

What did Bhuvaneshwari say?

Speaking with the party cadre, she said, “I will make a joke, and everyone here can respond freely. After doing the Nijam Gelavali yatra and experiencing the love of the people, I felt a desire in my heart.”

She further expressed, “With the trust in N Chandrababu Naidu, the people of Kuppam have been voting for him for the past 35 years. I might ask him to take a break, and I’ll run for office.”

In an attempt to interact with the party cadre present on the dias, Bhuvaneshwari asked the people present there to raise their hands if they support Chandrababu Naidu.

Immediately after she also asked them to raise their hands, if they wanted to support her.

As the people present raised their hands for both Bhuvaneshwari and Chandrababu Naidu, she joked, “Well, you can’t choose both of us at once. I’m just kidding. I don’t need any positions, and my husband takes good care of me.”

She further clarified, “I can’t continue my conversation seriously. So, I made a light-hearted joke. Please don’t assume my questions are true. Only N Chandrababu Naidu will be contesting from here.”
