Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu
Synopsis: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu commenced a five-day visit to Singapore with a series of high-level meetings, as he sought to restore investor confidence following the previous YSRCP administration. Naidu outlined Andhra Pradesh’s competitive strengths, with the meetings resulting in early investment proposals.
On the first day of his five-day visit to Singapore, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held high-level discussions with investors from the city-state.
The meetings led to a few early investment proposals, including Surbana Jurong’s interest in the state’s “Housing for All” initiative, and a plan by Eversendai to set up a 2,00,000 sq.m manufacturing facility in either Visakhapatnam or Krishnapatnam.
Eversendai also proposed a structural engineering training centre in collaboration with IIT Tirupati and IIIT Sri City.
The visit marks an important step in restoring Singapore’s confidence in Andhra Pradesh after the 2019–2024 period, during which the previous YSRCP administration saw Singapore exit the Amaravati capital project.
Naidu stressed his commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, saying, “We are here to rebuild trust and showcase Andhra’s renewed potential.”
Several major Singaporean firms, including STT, Keppel, CapitaLand, Equinix and PSA, explored opportunities in semiconductor manufacturing, shipbuilding and maritime logistics, data centre infrastructure, green energy, and urban development.
The Chief Minister also held discussions on collaboration in AI, start-up incubation, and academic partnerships with Singaporean institutions.
Naidu was received by the Telugu diaspora with traditional performances. At the South East Asia Telugu Diaspora event, attended by thousands from across the region, he highlighted the achievements of the global Telugu community, citing examples like Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
“While you contribute to your adopted countries, remember your roots,” he urged, pitching Andhra Pradesh as an investment destination.
In a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule, Naidu outlined Andhra Pradesh’s competitive strengths, including a 160 GW green energy target, ongoing green hydrogen projects in Visakhapatnam (with NTPC) and Kakinada, India’s first Quantum Valley in Amaravati, and a proposed Google data centre in Visakhapatnam.
Ambule pointed to Singapore’s expertise in healthcare, aviation, and port logistics, and expressed optimism about stronger bilateral cooperation.
Naidu’s itinerary includes 29 meetings aimed at attracting investments and building long-term partnerships.
