Murder accused hacked to death in Mangaluru

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station, and the police said multiple teams have been formed to nab the accused at the earliest.

Synopsis: A rowdy-sheeter, Suhas Shetty, was hacked to death by a group of assailants near Kinnipadavu Cross in the Bajpe.

The Mangaluru City Police in Karnataka said that a rowdy-sheeter, Suhas Shetty, was hacked to death by a group of assailants near Kinnipadavu Cross in the Bajpe area on Thursday, 1 May. The incident occurred at around 8.27 pm on Thursday.

“One Suhash Shetty, who was travelling in a vehicle (KA-12-MB-3731) along with Sanjay, Prajwal, Anvith, Latheesh, and Shashank, was intercepted by a group of assailants travelling in a Swift car and a pickup vehicle,” the police said in a release.

It added that Suhash was attacked by a group of around six assailants with deadly weapons, causing grievous injuries. “He was immediately rushed to AJ Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.”

Multiple teams formed to nab the accused

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station, and the police said multiple teams have been formed to nab the accused at the earliest. “Mangaluru City Police is committed to ensuring swift justice and maintaining law and order,” the release stated.

The Mangaluru City Police also released details of the cases against Suhash Shetty. According to the police, five cases were registered against him, including two murder cases. One case is filed in the Dakshina Kannada district, and four in Mangaluru City Commissionerate. According to reports, he was acquitted in two cases, and the trial was going on in two murder cases.

Shetty was accused of the murder of Mohammad Fazil, a resident of Mangalwarpete in Katipalla, in front of a shop in the Suratkal area of Mangaluru in 2022. He was also accused of the murder of a 20-year-old, Keerthi, at Devearagudda in Bajpe in 2020 and stabbing two others.

Following the incident, Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje took to X to claim that Suhash was targeted only because he was a Hindu.

She alleged that, “Under Siddaramaiah’s rule, Karnataka’s law and order has completely collapsed. While jihadis roam the streets with weapons, Congress leaders are busy enjoying dinner parties with them.”

Police have not yet commented on the motive behind the murder or identities of the assailants as investigations are ongoing.
