Multi-agency probe ‘looking at all angles’ underway into Red Fort car blast: HM Shah

Synopsis: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that a comprehensive investigation is underway into Monday’s car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi. He said that central and local security agencies, including the NSG and NIA, were deployed within minutes of the incident to examine all possible angles and review CCTV footage. Shah added that the government would share the findings with the public once the inquiry is complete.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that a comprehensive investigation is underway into the explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi on the evening of Monday, 10 November. The car blast is feared to have killed at least eight people and injured several others.

Shah confirmed that the blast occurred around 7 pm at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the historic monument and that the explosion involved a Hyundai i20 car, causing damage to several vehicles in the vicinity.

“Preliminary information suggests that some individuals have also lost their lives,” the Home Minister said, speaking to ANI.

He added that central and local security agencies had been mobilised immediately after the incident.

“Within ten minutes of receiving information about the explosion, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and the Delhi Special Branch arrived at the scene. The NSG and NIA teams, along with the FSL, have now begun a detailed investigation. Orders have been issued to review all nearby CCTV footage,” he stated.

Investigation and security response

The Home Minister said he had spoken to the Delhi Commissioner of Police and the head of the Special Branch, both of whom were at the site. “We are examining all possible angles and will conduct a comprehensive investigation, considering every line of enquiry. All options are being explored promptly, and the findings will be shared with the public. I will be heading to the site shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately,” he said.

No official statement has yet been made on the cause or nature of the explosion.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed grief and solidarity with the victims’ families.

“The news of the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station is extremely heartbreaking and concerning. The report of the deaths of several innocent people in this tragic incident is profoundly sorrowful,” he wrote in a post on X.

“In this hour of grief, I stand with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones and express my deepest condolences to them. I hope for the swift recovery of all the injured.”
