Nine states and a Union Territory cast their votes to elect 96 lawmakers to the 543-member 18th Lok Sabha on Monday, 13 May during the fourth phase of the elections with a provisional turnout of 62.73 percent at 7.30 pm.
Simultaneous polls were held for the 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, and 28 in Odisha.
Polling was also held in all 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana’s 17 seats, besides five in Bihar, one in Jammu and Kashmir, four each in Jharkhand and Odisha, eight constituencies each in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, 11 in Maharashtra and 13 in Uttar Pradesh.
While Telangana and Andhra Pradesh recorded provisional polling of 61.23 percent and 68.12 percent respectively for the Lok Sabha elections, the Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh recorded a turnout of 68.04 percent.
The by-poll held for the Secunderabad Assembly constituency provisionally polled 47.88 percent.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi (Hyderabad), APCC president YS Sharmila (Kadapa), Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy (Secundrabad), and the party’s national general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar (Karimnagar) are some of the key contenders from the south.

A voter turnout of 56.35 percent was recorded till 5 pm on Monday in Uttar Pradesh where polling is underway in 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in the fourth round of the seven-phase general elections.
Akbarpur parliamentary constituency has recorded 55.22 percent polling, Bahraich 55.97 percent, Dhaurahra 62.72 percent, Etawah 54.35 percent, Farrukhabad 56.93 percent, Hardoi 55.73 percent, Kannauj 59.05 percent, Kanpur 50.91 percent, Kheri 62.75 percent, Misrikh 54.37 percent, Shahjahanpur 51.52 percent, Sitapur 60.90 percent and Unnao 53.97 percent, according to EC data.

Around 62.96 percent of the over 62.87 lakh voters have exercised their franchise till 5 pm in four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly constituencies in Odisha on Monday, officials said.
Voting started at 7 am in 7,303 polling stations in Berhampur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi parliamentary constituencies along with 28 Assembly segments within the jurisdiction of these Lok Sabha seats.
Till 5 pm, 62.96 percent voters have cast their votes, officials said, adding that the highest voter turnout was recorded in the tribal-dominated Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat at 67.07 percent followed by Nabarangpur with 65.07 percent turnout, Koraput (61.43%), and Berhampur (58.00%).
Madhya Pradesh recorded a voter turnout of 68.01 percent at 5 pm on Monday.
Mandsour recorded the highest turnout at 71.76 percent and Indore recorded the lowest at 56.53 percent
A voter turnout of 63.14 percent was recorded till 5 pm in four Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand on Monday, elections officials said.
Maoist-hit Singhbhum seat saw about 66.11 percent voter turnout till 5 pm while the same was at 65.82 percent, 62.60 percent and 59.99 percent in Khunti, Lohardaga and Palamu seats respectively.
The Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of 35.75 percent at 5 pm on Monday.
A voter turnout of 54.14 percent was recorded in Bihar at 5 pm on Monday where voting is held at five Lok Sabha constituencies.
At 5 pm, Samstipur recorded the highest turnout at 56.36 percent and Munger recorded the lowest at 51.44 percent.
Andhra Pradesh recorded a 68.04 percent voter turnout for the 25 Lok Sabha seats and a 67.99 percent turnout in the 175-seat Assembly at 5 pm, an Election Commission app said on Monday.
For the Lok Sabha polls, the Chittoor constituency recorded the highest turnout of 75.60 percent while Araku recorded the lowest of 58.20 percent.
An approximate voter turnout of 61.16 percent was reported till 5 pm in Telangana.
The Bhongir constituency recorded the highest turnout at 72.34 percent while the Hyderabad constituency recorded the lowest at 39.17 percent.
Meanwhile, the by-poll for the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency recorded a turnout of 47.88 percent at 5 pm.
A voter in Tenali, G Sudhakar, has complained against sitting MLA Annabathina Shivakumar for assaulting him. The complainant said the MLA assaulted him for questioning the lawmaker for jumping the queue at a polling booth.
A video of the man questioning the MLA, and Shiva Kumar slapping him went viral on social media. The video also showed the voter retaliating in kind, and the MLA's supporters assaulting him. The MLA later said the man was drunk and abused him and his wife.
The police have registered an FIR based on the man's complaint.

Some 3,000 early voters in Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Monday were treated to free 'poha-jalebi' by shopkeepers of the city's renowned food street '56 Dukan' as part of efforts to increase voting in the state's commercial capital.
"Around 3,000 persons who voted between 7 am and 9.30 am were given free poha and jalebi at five establishments. Such was the crowd that we needed five quintals of poha to feed all of them," Gunjan Sharma, president of the traders' association of the renowned array of shops called '56 Dukan', told PTI.
Senior citizens and youth who voted for the first time were given free ice cream along with poha and jalebi, Sharma added.

Thirty-seven-year-old Halkan Kisan on Monday exercised his vote for the first time at his own booth at 'Budha Pahad'—a former Maoist hotbed, which falls under Palamu Lok Sabha constituency.
Located along Jharkhand's Latehar and Garhwa districts, Budha Pahad was freed recently from the red rebels' control by security forces after over three decades.
Kisan cast his vote at booth no 420 in the government's upgraded middle school, Hesatu, along with hundreds of voters from different villages fearlessly.

The Election Commission (EC) has suspended two polling officials in Odisha for dereliction of duty, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal said on Monday.
One polling official from Narla assembly constituency in Kalahandi district and another polling official in Ganjam district have been suspended for dereliction of duty, he said.
"We are monitoring the poll process in our webcasting room. A minor group clash-like incident was reported from the Chikiti area in the Ganjam district. I have personally spoken to SP Berhampur and Ganjam Collector and asked them to ensure that the polling goes on smoothly in Berhampur LS constituency especially in the Chikiti area," Dhal told media persons.

BJP's Nizamabad candidate and sitting MP Arvind Dharmapuri was seen in a video questioning women for wearing burqa in front of polling officials. He sought to know how their identity could be established.
The MP also questioned the election officials whether they were performing their duty or merely passing time. The incident occurred inside a polling booth.

Around 23.28 percent voter turnout has been recorded in four Lok Sabha constituencies and 28 Assembly segments in Odisha till 11 am on Monday, officials said.
Odisha's Chief Electoral Officer NB Dhal said that the voting was underway in all the 7,303 polling stations across peacefully in four Parliamentary Constituencies and 28 assembly segments under their jurisdiction with some reports of EVM glitches.

Three generations of the Abdullah family on Monday cast their vote in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, with National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah appealing to people to turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
NC president and former J-K chief minister Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and his two grandsons and first-time electors Zahir and Zamir cast their vote at the polling station at the Burn Hall School.
"We have two first-time voters with us. It is for the first time that three generations of our family are voting together," Omar Abdullah, also a former chief minister, said.

An approximate voter turnout of 10.35 percent was recorded in the first two hours of polling on Monday in 96 constituencies spread over 10 states and Union Territories in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections amid complaints of EVM malfunctioning in West Bengal.
Voting is also progressing in all 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and 28 legislative assembly seats in Odisha.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the lowest voting percentage till 9 am with 5.07 percent voters exercising their franchise, while West Bengal recorded the highest with 15.24 percent.
Among other states, Andhra Pradesh recorded 9.05 percent, Bihar 10.18, Jharkhand 11.78, Madhya Pradesh 14.97, Maharashtra 6.45, Odisha, 9.23, Telangana, 9.51 and Uttar Pradesh 11.67 percent.

A voter turnout of 11.67 percent was recorded till 9 am on Monday in Uttar Pradesh where polling is underway in 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in the fourth round of the seven-phase general elections.
Polling began at 7 am and is scheduled to end at 6 pm.
Akbarpur constituency has recorded 12.16 percent, Bahraich 14.04 percent, Dhaurahra 13.96 percent, Etawah 7.06 percent, Farrukhabad 13.15 percent, Hardoi 13.17 percent, Kannauj 14.23 percent, Kanpur 7.84 percent, Kheri 12.21 percent, Misrikh 12.92 percent, Shahjahanpur 5.94 percent, Sitapur 14.28 percent and Unnao 11.85 percent, according to EC data.

Maoist-hit Singhbhum seat saw about 12.67 percent voter turnout till 9 am while the same was at 12.20 percent, about 10.97 percent and 11.47 percent in Khunti, Lohardaga, and Palamu seats, respectively.

A voter turnout of 6.45 percent was recorded till 9 am as polling is underway in 11 of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra during the fourth phase of the general elections.
Odisha recorded around 9.23 percent voter turnout in the first two hours of polling in four Lok Sabha constituencies and 28 Assembly segments on Monday, officials said.

Congress Baharampur candidate Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and his TMC rival former cricketer Yusuf Pathan said they are happy with the way polling is being conducted in Bengal.
"I am happy with the way polling is being conducted since this morning. Polling is peaceful," Pathan told reporters.
TMC's Krishanagar candidate Mahua Moitra also said that the election has been peaceful there and she is moving to different polling stations to keep a tab on the polling there.
The poll panel has identified 3,647 polling stations as critical.
Both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP have lodged complaints alleging EVM malfunctioning, agents being stopped from entering polling booths and voters being either threatened or stopped from voting in different constituencies.
The TMC lodged around 139 complaints while the BJP over 35 till 9 AM, party sources said.
"We have received 350 complaints, of which 99 were disposed of. Our officials in the respective constituencies are looking into the others. They will be resolved quickly," an election commission official told PTI.
Polling peaceful in Bengal, 15.24% turnout till 9 am
Polling is underway peacefully in eight Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal as 15.24 percent voter turnout was recorded till 9 am.
The electoral process started at the eight Lok Sabha constituencies of Baharampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat (SC), Bardhaman Purba (SC), Bardhaman–Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur (SC) and Birbhum, at 7 am amid tight security arrangements.

Telangana recorded 9.51 percent voter turnout till 9 am as polling was underway for 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Polling which began at 7 am will end by 6 pm, barring at a few places where it will conclude two hours earlier.
Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, film actors Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun and Junior NTR were among the prominent persons who voted.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi urged people to cast their votes in large numbers and help the INDIA bloc form government at the Centre.
In a post on X, Gandhi appealed to the electorate not to be distracted and vote on issues that concern it.
"Today is the fourth phase of voting. After the first three phases, it has become clear that on June 4 an INDIA (bloc) government is going to be formed," he said.
"Remember, your one vote will not only protect your democratic rights but will also change the fate of your entire family," Gandhi said as polling was underway in 96 parliamentary constituencies across 10 states and Union Territories.
Congress president Kharge said in the first three phases of the Lok Sabha elections, people have shown their might by voting for democracy and striving to save the Constitution from autocratic forces.
"This is a crucial phase to turn the tide completely in favour of NYAY-Justice and make INDIA (bloc) win. Do not get deterred by the diversionary tactics of hateful speeches which divide society," Kharge said in his appeal posted on X.

Former Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Vasant Naik expressed surprise over the name of his wife Madhubala having been deleted from the voters list.
ACM Naik, 75, along with his wife and son Vineet, 43, went to exercise their franchise at polling booth 26 at Sapling School Baner Road in Pune on Monday morning as soon as voting began.
“While I and my son were able to vote, my 72-year-old wife’s name was found deleted from the voters' list. When we brought this to the attention of the official there, he said that there was nothing he could do to help,” ACM Naik said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena said three TDP polling agents who were allegedly kidnapped in Chittoor district have been traced and secured.
The TDP agents were kidnapped from Bokaramanda village in Chittoor district's Sadum mandal, which falls under the Punganuru Assembly constituency.
"TDP district in-charge Jagan Mohan Raju complained that TDP agents belonging to polling stations 188, 189 and 199 were kidnapped by YSRCP leaders while going to the polling stations," said Meena.
Consequently, the CEO noted that Chittoor district election officials and the police department responded quickly, rescuing the kidnapped agents from Pileru and enabling them to attend to their duties.
Further, Meena observed that a probe is underway to identify the kidnappers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters to turn up in large numbers to perform "our duty and strengthen the democracy".

Voting in four Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand began on Monday morning amid tight security measures, marking the first phase of elections in the eastern state, poll officials said.
Polling started at 7 am in Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Khunti and Palamu seats, and will continue till 5 pm.
Of these, Singhbum, Lohardaga and Khunti are ST-reserved, and Palamu is reserved for Scheduled Castes.
In Maoist-affected Singhbhum, polling parties and material were air-dropped in 126 polling stations, they said.

Polling for the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana was underway with voters standing in queues to exercise their franchise.
After a high decibel campaign, including by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top leaders of Congress and BRS, polling began at 7 am and will end by 6 pm, barring a few places where it will conclude two hours earlier.
A bypoll for the Secunderabad (Cantonment) Assembly seat is being held simultaneously.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert suggesting light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely to occur at a few places.
Polling for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh covering 13 parliamentary constituencies began at 7 am.
The focus is on the prestigious Kannauj seat from where SP president Akhilesh Yadav is contesting.
Another prominent candidate in the fray in this round is Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, who is contesting from Kheri.
Besides Kannauj and Kheri, voting will take place in Shahjahanpur (SC), Dhaurahra, Sitapur, Hardoi (SC), Misrikh (SC), Unnao, Farrukhabad, Etawah (SC), Kanpur, Akbarpur and Bahraich (SC).
A total of 130 candidates are in the poll fray in this phase.
Polling began for 11 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Polling began at 7 am and will end at 6 pm in Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Raver, Jalna, Aurangabad, Maval, Pune, Shirur, Ahmednagar, Shirdi, and Beed constituencies.
Union minister Raosaheb Danve, BJP leader Pankaja Munde and actor-turned-politician Amol Kolhe are among the prominent candidates.
A total of 298 candidates are in the fray with Beed constituency having the highest number of candidates at 41, while Nandurbar has the lowest number at 11.
Altogether 2.28 crore voters are eligible to participate in the fourth phase of elections.
In the 11 constituencies, there are 23,284 polling centres, 83 of which are deemed critical. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar constituency in Marathwada has the highest number of critical polling centres at 20.
Polling began for eight Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh in the fourth and last phase of general elections in the state.
Polling began at 7 am and will end at 6 pm in Ratlam, Dhar, Khargone, Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Indore and Khandwa constituencies.
Polling for the fourth phase is being held across 18,007 polling stations in the eight constituencies.
A total of 74 candidates - 69 men and five women - are in the fray in the fourth phase. There are 1,63,70,654 eligible voters, including 82,48,091 men, 81,22,175 women, and 388 third gender persons.
