Telangana Information Technology (IT) and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday, 26 September, promised the establishment of an IT Park over an area of five acres in Adilabad.
The minister, after visiting the NTT BDNT Lab in Adilabad, said that the state government was ready to create the necessary infrastructure the IT sector might need in Adilabad as the focus was on the promotion of IT in Tier-II cities.
He said if tourism was also promoted in Adilabad, considered the Kashmir of Telangana, the district would get more exposure. This might result in the flow of investments into the IT sector, which is at a nascent stage in this northernmost district of the state.
Complimenting Sanjay Deshpande, the promoter of the NTT BDNT Lab, the minister promised to release ₹1.5 crore for the improvements to be made for the existing building that houses the company and the erection of a transformer to ensure the continuous supply of power to the IT lab.
He said that as the thrust was on the development of IT infrastructure in Tier-II cities, IT parks have either been set up or are being set up in towns like Warangal, Karimnagar, Mahaboobnagagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, and Nizamabad.
He said that he was quite interested in setting up an IT park in Adilabad, and if the town got enough exposure, there was no reason why plug-and-play facilities should not be booked even on the day of laying of the foundation stone.

The minister pointed out that as the employees in the NTT BDNT Lab were all locals, they were now getting an opportunity to compete with their colleagues in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
He deplored the Centre not coming forward to reopen the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) cement factory in Adilabad, though the state had offered concessions that were more than the permitted amount.
As there are vast limestone deposits in the district, it is an ideal location for setting up cement factories.
“Every day we see private companies expanding their footprint in the cement sector, but the CCI, which has a potential to flourish, remains neglected,” he said.
