Palakkad boy death

A four-year-old boy met a tragic end after he was strangled to death, allegedly by a paternal relative, in the Palakkad district in Kerala, police said on Tuesday, 12 December.

The gruesome murder was allegedly committed by the victim’s aunt, who is reportedly mentally unsound.

Ritwik, a kindergarten student, son of Madhusudan and Athira from Tulsi Garden Kallazhi house in Vannamada, was killed at his uncle’s residence.

Accused hospitalised

The 29-year-old woman, Deepthi Das, the wife of Madhusudan’s elder brother, is currently at Thrissur Medical College Hospital with injuries, suspected to have been inflicted by herself after the crime, police said.

The police said that the woman had injured herself on the neck and hand using a sharp weapon

The boy was found unconscious at the home in Kozhinjambara in Palakkad late on Monday night and was declared brought dead at the hospital by doctors.

The incident occurred when his parents were away as the deceased child’s grandmother was admitted to hospital due to some health issues.

Athira had left her son Ritwik with Deepti and her five-year-old daughter and then went to the hospital.

The incident

According to reports, when she came back to pick up her child, the door was locked and Deepti was not answering the bell.

However, the five-year-old girl somehow opened the door and let them inside only to witness Ritwik lying unconscious inside the house. Deepti Das was found lying nearby in a pool of blood.

“Besides the victim, the accused’s own child was also at the house at that time. When the parents came back, the boy was found lying unconscious,” a police officer told PTI.

The woman is said to be suffering from some mental issues and details need to be verified, police said.

The woman’s statement would be recorded soon and further details could be divulged only after that, he added.
