Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday, 2 September, ordered an inquiry against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order MR Ajith Kumar following the allegations made by Nilambur MLA PV Anvar.

Vijayan made the announcement while inaugurating the representative session of the Kerala Police Association’s state conference in Kottayam. The ADGP was also present at that event.

In a series of explosive allegations, Anvar accused Ajith Kumar of criminal ties and misconduct. Anvar described Ajith Kumar as a notorious criminal with connections to underworld terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.

The MLA did not spare Vijayan either. He criticised the chief minister’s trusted aides for their apparent failures.

Anvar claimed that with 29 departments under the chief minister’s purview, his Political Secretary P Shashi, the ADGP and Pathanamthitta SP Sujith Das were entrusted with key responsibilities but have not executed them effectively.

Meanwhile, Anvar applied for an arms licence. He met Malappuram District Collector VR Vinod IAS with the said demand.

Anvar is said to have highlighted that he was facing a threat to his life following the latest developments and thus needed an arms licence for self-protection.

Likely to be removed as ADGP

On Monday, Director General of Police (DGP) Sheikh Darvesh Saheb held discussions with the chief minister and it is said that Ajith Kumar is likely to be removed from the post of ADGP (Law and Order).

Meanwhile, Anvar further alleged that the ADGP is constructing a mansion in Kowdiar in Thiruvananthapuram.

“This officer says he is a law-abiding citizen. But going by his pay scale he will not be able to construct such a mansion and that too in one of the prime locations of the state. This mansion is 12,000 sq ft and is coming up in 22 cents of land. How did he source the money for this? This will have to be inquired,” said Anvar.

However, Ajith Kumar told the media: “Let all the allegations against me be inquired. I have sent a letter to the state government demanding an investigation on this.”

Allegation against another IPS officer

Anvar also levelled accusations against Sujith Das IPS, formerly with the Customs department, alleging multiple instances of police misconduct and involvement in gold smuggling operations.

According to Anvar, customs officials are complicit in smuggling activities, allowing smugglers to pass through undetected before police seize the gold, thus operating within a corrupt system.

CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan had earlier told the media that the allegations raised by Anvar would be considered seriously by the party and the government.

In August, a comment made by the Left independent MLA against Malappuram Superintendent of Police (SP) S Sasidharan had irked the Kerala chapter of the IPS Association.

The MLA was irritated after Sasidharan arrived late for a function and criticised the SP for not properly investigating the alleged theft of a rope from a water theme park at Kakkadampoyil, co-owned by Anvar.
