The industries ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu have jointly announced on Tuesday, 25 September, that the two neighbouring states have discussed varied proposals ranging from the “blue economy to startups and tourism to digital governance”, intending to build a model for inter-state cooperation.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Dr TRB Rajaa said the initial discussion with his Kerala counterpart, P Rajeev, took place in Delhi on 11 November after a dinner table with Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
“Yesterday (24 November), barely two weeks since, we have followed it up with a focused meeting, real proposals and a clear path forward,” he said in a post on X.
Rajeev said Kerala and Tamil Nadu will continue to move forward together, taking the next steps soon with confidence and determination.
Both ministers pointed to their respective chief ministers’ vision for a collaboration among states for better development.
“Honourable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has always believed that cooperation between strong states creates stronger outcomes for the people of India on the whole. This discussion proved that point!” Rajaa wrote.
“Our recent meeting in Chennai, held in the presence of senior officials from both states, reaffirmed the belief that true progress comes not from competition but from healthy, purposeful collaboration. This vision, consistently emphasised by Honourable Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was clearly reflected in our discussions. I also express my sincere appreciation to the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, for his support and commitment that have made this new chapter of cooperation possible,” Rajeev said.
Rajeev said they have identified more than five key sectors, including PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings), where both states could work together in an official capacity, creating new avenues for joint development.
“Areas such as technology, startups, innovation and advanced manufacturing hold immense potential for shared growth,” he said.
“To ensure that these possibilities are developed systematically, we will prepare a detailed master plan outlining the framework for cooperation. This partnership marks the beginning of a collective journey that can strengthen industries, create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and generate wider economic benefits across South India,” he added.
