KCR asks people to vote for development, not to walk into Congress’ trap

The Telangana chief minister was equally critical of the BJP for allegedly dismantling all public sector undertakings.

Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao on the campaign trail on Wednesday, 1 November, 2023.

Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao, who addressed back-to-back election rallies in the erstwhile Khammam district on Wednesday, 1 November, continued his scathing attack on the Congress.

He cautioned voters against the glib talk of the leaders of the grand old party, claiming they would lead the masses up the garden path if it helped them come to power in the state.

The chief minister, addressing public meetings at Illendu and Sattupalli, urged the voters to support the BRS as it was committed to developing the state.

“Your district is contiguous to Andhra Pradesh. You frequently cross the border and go to villages in the neighbouring state. You may have by now noticed that double road ends and single road begins as you enter AP. Nothing more is necessary to tell you why you should support the BRS,” he said.

Targeting Congress, BJP

The chief minister appeared very confident of sweeping the elections. He said the BRS was going to win the elections hands down, no matter what.

However, as a matter of caution, he was telling the people not to trust the Congress because if they did, its first job would be to sing requiem to all the welfare schemes.

The chief minister was equally critical of the BJP for dismantling all the public sector undertakings (PSUs).

“The Centre is selling away all the PSUs. This mad policy does not augur well for the country. Everything under the sky is being sold. The mighty institution of the LIC is on the chopping block. Airports and railways are being privatised,” he said.

“Now, the Centre wants to privatise the power sector. We did not allow it in Telangana,” he said.

He further said the Narendra Modi government wanted to fix meters on agricultural pump sets, but the BRS regime did not allow it despite losing ₹5,000 crore per annum as it would become ineligible for relaxation of FRBM to go in for additional borrowings.

Playing up BRS schemes

Referring to Dalit Bandhu, he said he had designed the scheme to end the misery of Dalits and help them eke out a respectable living. The programme would go on as he wanted Dalits to lead a life of dignity.

He said under Dalit Bandhu, the state government was paying ₹10 lakh to beneficiaries to start any business of their choice to make a decent living.

He said Dalits needed handholding as they are being targeted in North Indian states like Gujarat.

“Attacks are taking place on Dalits. In Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and even the prime minister’s home state of Gujarat, there is no security for Dalits. Women are being raped. Their plight should move everyone. What kind of democracy is this?” he asked.

He also took a dig at the Congress government in Karnataka for failing to provide 24-hour power supply as promised in the run-up to the Assembly elections there.

The Karnataka government is providing power supply to the farm sector for only five hours a day, he said.

He referred to the BRS manifesto while explaining what he intended to do to the people.

The money payable under social pension and Rythu Bandhu would be increased in phases and LPG would be supplied at ₹400 per cylinder, he said.

Health insurance cover would be provided to as many as 93 lakh BPL families in the state, he added.
