MLA Basavaraju Shivaganga predicts DK Shivakumar will become CM by December
Synopsis: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed he would follow AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge’s directive to avoid discussing power-sharing issues. Responding to Veerappan Moily’s statement that he would become CM by December, Shivakumar stated it was Moily’s personal opinion and refrained from further comments. MLA Basavaraju Shivaganga echoed Moily’s claim, with Shivakumar expressing confidence in leading the government successfully after assuming office
Speculation is growing within Karnataka’s political circles, particularly among Congress leaders, about a potential leadership change later this year under a “rotational chief minister” or “power-sharing” arrangement.
Following the May Assembly elections in 2023, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were in a fierce competition for the chief minister’s post. Eventually, Congress persuaded Shivakumar to accept the role of deputy chief minister.
There were reports suggesting a compromise had been reached, involving a “rotational chief minister formula,” with Shivakumar set to assume the top post after two-and-a-half years. However, these reports have not been officially confirmed by the party.
MLA Basavaraju Shivaganga echoed Veerappan Moily’s recent statement that no one could stop DK Shivakumar from becoming the Chief Minister. Basavaraju Shivaganga claimed that DK Shivakumar would assume the Chief Minister’s position by the end of the year.
“You (media) can write it down—DK Shivakumar will become the CM by December. It will happen. If anyone wants, I can write it down in my blood,” he said.
He further added that once in charge, he would lead the government effectively and would secure a victory in the next assembly elections
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar clarified that he would adhere to the directions of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, refraining from discussing power-sharing issues in the state.
Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar responded to questions about Veerappan Moily’s recent statement that no one could stop him from becoming the Chief Minister.
“Veerappan Moily has expressed his personal opinion. I will not talk about it, there is no need for it,” he said.
Shivakumar also addressed the media’s curiosity surrounding Moily’s bold prediction that he would become the Chief Minister by December.

Previously speaking at the Press Club of Bangalore (PCB) Award on 12 January, Siddaramaiah had expressed frustration over what he called unfounded rumours regarding his position.
“There’s no confusion. Yet, [the media] keeps reporting that the chief minister will change. The CM chair is not vacant. And if Congress members even gather for lunch, you’ll write reports based on pure speculation,” he had said.
Siddaramaiah had criticised media outlets for fabricating narratives, saying, “I often see TV channels creating their own dialogues. It’s all pure speculation… ‘This is what they might have discussed. This is what they might have said. MB Patil said this, KS Muniyappa said that, KJ George said this, Laxmi Hebbalkar said that.’ What we discuss is different from what you write, and what reaches the public is even further from the truth.”
