A BJP delegation led by senior leaders Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan, R Ashoka, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and N Ravikumar met Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot on Wednesday, 21 May, demanding strict action against alleged Congress workers involved in an attack on BJP MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy at the Chittapur circuit house in Kalaburagi.

In a formal letter submitted to the Governor, the BJP leaders accused Congress workers of “manhandling, abuse, and misconduct” during the incident.

The letter described the group as “rowdy elements” who allegedly stormed the premises, hurled verbal abuses, splashed blue ink on an official vehicle, and confined the MLC within the circuit house for over six hours.

Detailing the sequence of events, Narayanaswamy wrote, “I arrived at the Chittapur circuit house around 3:30 pm as per my scheduled tour.

A mob of Congress workers had gathered outside, shouting slogans and staging an aggressive protest. Despite a sizeable police presence, no action was taken to control the crowd or ensure my safety.”

The alleged attack

According to the letter, the situation escalated at around 7:30 pm when the mob allegedly breached the premises, splattered ink on Narayanaswamy’s government vehicle, and subjected him to verbal intimidation.

“I was forcibly confined in a room without any protection, while the police stood by as mute spectators,” the letter claimed.

Narayanaswamy urged the Governor to initiate strict and exemplary action against the individuals responsible for what he described as “an unlawful and disrespectful act of atrocity.”

He also called for an inquiry into the inaction of the local police.

The BJP delegation has also forwarded a copy of the complaint to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara, seeking urgent intervention and action against the alleged perpetrators.
