IndiGo crisis deepens as cancellations continue, stranding passengers nationwide

On Thursday, IndiGo apologised publicly and informed the DGCA that normal operations may only resume by 10 February 2026, seeking short-term relaxations in duty-time norms. On Thursday alone, over 550 flights were cancelled across India.

According to the data from flight booking aggregators, ticket prices have also gone up due to the crisis. Airports have urged passengers to monitor their flight status and allow additional travel time as IndiGo works to restore its schedule.

Delays in airports across South India

At Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, operations were disrupted on Friday as IndiGo’s nationwide operational crisis continued to ripple through Kerala.

The airline cancelled two flights and delayed four others, leading to crowding and slow movement of passengers. A Doha–Kochi Air India Express service was also diverted to Thiruvananthapuram, adding to the congestion.

Cochin International Airport had earlier issued an advisory cautioning travellers about widespread disruptions affecting several domestic carriers, with IndiGo bearing the brunt.

More than 100 Indigo flights were cancelled at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Friday, with disruptions continuing for the fourth consecutive day.

Around 52 arrivals and 50 departures from the Bengaluru airport were cancelled due to operational reasons, airport officials said on Friday. On 4 December, a total of 99 Indigo flights were cancelled. Many passengers have been waiting at the airport since yesterday afternoon for their flights. Several angry passengers were seen confronting IndiGo staff at the airport.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad witnessed disruptions in 71 departures and 61 arrivals. Meanwhile, a large number of Ayyappa devotees staged a protest at Hyderabad Airport after many IndiGo flights from Hyderabad to Kochi were cancelled. As a mark of protest, Ayyappa devotees were seen chanting “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa”.

According to official sources, 31 flights have been cancelled at the Chennai International Airport on Friday. All IndiGo departures from Delhi Airport are cancelled till 3 pm on Friday.
