Clouds over South India on 5 November

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday, 5 November, predicted isolated heavy rainfall in south peninsular India — including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and parts of the Union Territory of Puducherry — for seven days, starting from Sunday, 5 November, due to the prevailing weather conditions over the southern part of the country.

An IMD forecast said that a cyclonic circulation lay over south Tamil Nadu and neighbouring areas which was likely to move west-north-westwards towards southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea during the next three days.

Under the influence of the strong lower level easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal due to the above systems, widespread light to moderate rainfall was very likely over south peninsular India during the next seven days, it said.

Light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is highly likely over south peninsular India in the next five days. This rainfall is expected to be fairly consistent before gradually decreasing.

It also predicted heavy rainfall and isolated heavy rainfall for several regions in South India.
