The Hyderabad City Police have urged the public to come forward and file complaints with the police using the Hawk Eye mobile application.

The police appealed to the people not to neglect mobile thefts now that the complainants need not visit the police station to register their grievances.

This comes after the Hyderabad North Zone Police nabbed three teenagers for the theft of a mobile phone in the city on Monday, 27 June.

The North Zone Task Force police and the Karkhana police, in a joint operation, arrested the gang after a woman complained that her mobile phone had been stolen.

Mobile theft solved

According to the police, the trio had targeted the woman as she was talking on her phone near the LIC X Roads on 10 June.

Three were held for mobile phone theft by the Hyderabad North Zone Task Force on 27 June.

The accused were triple-riding a scooter and the middle rider snatched the phone from the woman and they sped away, said the police.

The North Zone Task Force said that they identified the accused and the vehicle used for the crime from CCTV footage.

The police recovered the stolen mobile phone and also seized the scooter from the accused.

Talking to the South First, the North Zone Inspector M Praveen Kumar said many do not report mobile-phone thefts to the police because they think it would be a hassle to go to the police station to report the crime.

He explained that the victims are mostly travellers and many don’t know the proper procedure to file such a report.

Kumar urged people to use the Hawk Eye app, run by the Hyderabad City Police, to report such thefts.

Real-time tracking

“Upon receiving a complaint on the app, we track the stolen mobile in real time and find the stolen device,” Kumar said.

He also said that Hawk Eye is user-friendly and allows the complainant to track the status of their complaint.

Through the mobile application, users can check the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of mobile phones, the police said.

“All one has to do is go to the ‘Vehicle and Mobile Search’ link on the App and enter the IMEI number. The police can help you track your device in real time,” said Kumar.

He also advised people to use the app when buying a secondhand mobile phone.
