Vidhana Soudha

Synopsis: For the first time, the iconic Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru will open its doors to tourists through guided tours approved by the Karnataka government, aiming to boost tourism and revenue. Visitors, organised in small groups, will be allowed limited access to the interiors of the state legislature building, with strict security measures and a detailed code of conduct in place.

Tourists will soon be able to step inside the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, as the Karnataka government approves guided tours of the state legislature building.

Modelled on similar programmes at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament in New Delhi, the initiative aims to boost tourism and public engagement with one of Karnataka’s most iconic landmarks.

Until now, visitors have only been allowed to view the structure from the outside. Under the new initiative, they will be given limited access to the interiors along with detailed information on the building’s architecture and history.

The Department of Tourism had earlier sought permission to launch the initiative, targeting both domestic and international tourists. Approval has now been granted with several security and operational conditions in place.

How the tours will work

Tours will be held exclusively on government holidays, from 8am to 6pm. Visitors will be organised into groups of up to 30, each led by a Tourist Officer. The Deputy Director of the Tourism Department will serve as the nodal officer.

Bookings will be available online through the Tourism Department’s website. The entry fee will be set at “a tourist-friendly rate”.

All security protocols issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security) must be strictly followed.

To ensure safety during the tours, an ambulance and a doctor will be stationed at the site, and a fire engine will be on standby. The Public Works Department will install instruction boards at key locations.

Tourists are required to follow a strict code of conduct. They must not damage any property or statues within the building and its premises.

The use of drones is strictly prohibited. Visitors may bring only a water bottle – food items and plastic are banned. Vehicle parking in front of the Vidhana Soudha will not be permitted.
