Gemini Edibles & Fats India (GEF India), a joint venture of Golden Agri International (GAR) Singapore and the makers of edible oils under the Freedom Brand, will set up an edible oil refinery near Hyderabad at an investment of ₹400 crore.
Gemini’s Managing Director Pradeep Chowdhry met Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 12 October, and conveyed the investment decision. The minister promised all possible cooperation to the company.
KTR said that Telangana has set for itself an ambitious goal of cultivating oil palm in 20 lakh acres, thereby embarking on a “Yellow Revolution”. He felt that the new investment by Gemini Edibles would play an important role in increasing edible oil output from Telangana and would also help local farmers.
Chowdhry said that the proposed unit is the beginning of the “Yellow Revolution” in Telangana, which will see many such units coming up in the near future. The unit would not only provide employment to more than 1,000 locals, but also support the many oilseed farmers in the state.
GEF India is a Hyderabad-based company dealing in edible oil manufacturing and selling since 2010. GEF’s brand, Freedom sunflower oil is the largest-selling brand in India in the sunflower oil category, an official release claimed.
Meanwhile, Infor, an industry cloud company, announced the expansion of its India operations with the opening of its new development centre in Hitech City, one of India’s top destinations for technology and business.
The new multi-storey state-of-the-art development center is spread over 350,000 sq ft and will have 3,500 employees. The development centre was inaugurated by Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary of the Industries and Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) department, and Kevin Samuelson, CEO of Infor.
Infor’s India development centre is among its two largest locations in the world, driving key technology innovations to gain a competitive edge and market leadership in the global marketplace, a press release said.
“Hyderabad is fast emerging as a preferred IT hub for technology companies on the backbone of a thriving environment for the local talent pool. We welcome strategic investments by global companies to drive growth opportunities and provide a platform for talent to hone their skills,” KTR said.
“We are thrilled that several leading technology companies like Infor are deepening their investments in our people and economy. Infor’s expansion is an ideal example of fostering a collaborative approach to strengthen businesses and cement Hyderabad’s position on the global stage.”
Infor CEO Samuelson said: “India is the strategic hub for skilled talent and global technology development for Infor. Over the past decade, we have harnessed the true potential of the immense talent pool in the region, and the expansion of our new development centre in Hyderabad excites us to further strengthen our global efforts toward cloud innovation, engineering, and research.”
