Inspector Md Habibulla Khan

Synopsis: Gachibowli Inspector Md Habibulla Khan has been transferred just days after an FIR was filed against Raghava Constructions, a firm owned by the son of Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, over alleged large-scale land-grab. The BRS has alleged that the transfer amounts to retribution, though no direct link between the two events has been established.

Days after Gachibowli police registered a case against Raghava Constructions, a firm owned by Ponguleti Harsha Reddy, son of Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Gachibowli Inspector Md Habibulla Khan has been transferred out.

His transfer was notified on Monday, 8 December, as part of an order issued by the Cyberabad Police Commissioner transferring eight other officers as well.

K Balraju, who is serving as SHO of the RGI Airport Police Station, has been posted as Khan’s replacement.

The timing of the transfer has raised eyebrows, coming close on the heels of the FIR in which Raghava Constructions was named among the accused in an alleged land-grabbing case.

BRS alleges retribution

While there is no direct evidence linking Khan’s transfer to the case, the Opposition BRS was quick to draw parallels and allege that the move amounted to retribution.

Notably, Habibulla Khan had recently received the Surakshit Hyderabad Award for excellence in law and order management in Gachibowli.

After the case against Raghava Constructions came to light, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy adopted a tone of moral high ground while speaking to the media.

“The police received a complaint and registered a case. They will investigate and find out the truth. Whoever is guilty will be punished, whether it is me, my son, or anyone else. If I say no case should be registered against my son because I am a minister, it is wrong. Our government does not follow such practices,” he said.

The alleged land-grab

The FIR pertains to an audacious land-grab attempt in Vattinagulapally, on Hyderabad’s western fringe. Police had said the confrontation unfolded on 30 November, when more than 70 hired men, accompanied by JCB excavators, stormed a three-acre plot valued at nearly Rs 300 crore.

The land, owned by local resident Pallavi Shah and her family, is located near Exit 1A of the Outer Ring Road, a prime and rapidly appreciating real-estate pocket.

In her complaint to the Gachibowli police, Shah described a brazen attack on her property: boundary walls were demolished, sheds were torn down, and a goshala housing cattle was destroyed, causing losses running into crores.

When the family resisted, they were allegedly assaulted, escalating the property dispute into a violent clash. Police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal trespass, rioting, intimidation and assault. A separate case was filed over the physical attacks.

Interestingly, the incident remained under wraps for four days and gained attention only after videos surfaced on social media and Opposition parties demanded action.
