ECI to announce schedule of Lok Sabha elections, state Assembly elections 2024 on 16 March

The Election Commission said that the schedule would announced in a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The Election Commission (EC) of India on Friday, 15 March, issued a notification and said that the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections and state Assembly elections 2024 on Saturday.

The EC said that the schedule would announced in a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

“Press Conference by Election Commission to announce schedule for #GeneralElections2024 & some State Assemblies will be held at 3 pm tomorrow ie Saturday, 16th March. It will livestreamed on social media platforms of the ECI,” it said in a post on X.

The term of the present Lok Sabha ends on 16 June and a new House has to be constituted before that.

Last time the Lok Sabha polls were announced on 10 March, 2019, and held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May, 2019. Votes were counted on 23 May, 2019.

Following the election the BJP had won 303 seats from across the country and formed the government. The NDA led by the BJP had won a total of 353 seats.
