Synopsis: High drama erupted in Medipalli on July 13 as alleged Telangana Jagruti activists stormed MLC Teenmar Mallanna’s Q News office, enraged by his remarks against BRS MLC K Kavitha over BC reservations. The mob vandalised the premises, prompting Mallanna’s gunman to open fire, injuring one intruder. Bloodstains in the office triggered panic among staff as tensions escalated
High drama unfolded in Medipalli on Sunday, 13 July, when a group of youths, allegedly Telangana Jagruti activists, stormed the Q News office of MLC Teenmar Mallanna — also know as Chintapandu Naveen — in retaliation to his remarks against BRS MLC K Kavitha.
Furious over Mallanna’s allegedly derogatory comments questioning Kavitha’s role in the state government’s recent ordinance granting 42 percent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs), the mob vandalised the premises — smashing window panes, breaking furniture, and attempting to force their way into his chamber.
As tensions peaked, Mallanna’s gunman fired several rounds, injuring one intruder who was later hospitalized. The hall-way in the office was splattered with blood all over, causing panic among the staff.
According to Mallanna, the attackers were acting on behalf of Kavitha. He alleged that it was an attempt on his life. “Around 11:30 a.m., nearly 30 of her supporters barged into my chamber, twisted my arm, and even tried to snatch my gunman’s weapon,” he claimed.
The provocation for Mallanna’s comments came when Kavitha claimed that the reservation ordinance was the result of her year-long struggle for BC rights. He questioned her connection to the cause, using a controversial idiom from the Telangana dialect — which he later defended as colloquial and non-offensive. “It’s our regional way of speaking. There’s no reason to object,” he said, adding, “No intimidation will stop my fight for BC political empowerment.”
He also upped the ante by declaring his intent to “end Kavitha’s political career within three years,” accusing her family of looting the state for over a decade.
Kavitha, in turn, hit back strongly, calling Mallanna’s remarks misogynistic and disgraceful. “This is not just about me. It’s about every woman in public life,” she said. Defending her decade-long work for BC causes, she questioned the need for personal attacks and condemned the use of abusive language.
She has since petitioned Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, seeking Mallanna’s suspension, and also filed complaints with the Director General of Police. “My supporters went to protest peacefully and were fired upon. Is this right?” she asked. Kavitha vowed to continue championing women’s leadership in politics: “I will raise crores of women leaders like me,” she said.
