I-T raids on BRS MLAs, MP.
The raids carried out by the Income Tax (I-T) Department on the premises of two BRS MLAs and an MP in Hyderabad since early Wednesday continued for the second day on Thursday, 15 June, with officials examining the seized documents to ascertain irregularities in paying taxes.
Even as the followers of the two BRS MLAs — Pailla Sekhar Reddy and Marri Janardhan Reddy — along with MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy were annoyed with the ongoing raids, sources said the I-T Department was conducting raids to know the alleged violations committed by the three ruling party representatives in their respective businesses.
The I-T sleuths conducted raids at over 50 locations in the state capital, especially in the western part of the city and its suburbs, and seized crucial documents for detailed verification.
The sleuths mainly focussed on the gap between the company’s revenues and the I-T returns filed during the financial year.
The department has also verified the bank account details of the two MLAs along with the lockers.
Reacting to the raids, Janardhan Reddy said the I-T Department had earlier given two awards to his company after confirming that there were no irregularities.
“We are hopeful of repeating the same this time as well,” he said, adding that his mobile phone was also seized.
He said he was not sure as to when the raids would conclude but these searches were testing everyone’s patience.
“We are sharing all the details sought by the department and cooperating with officials concerned,” he said.
He said taxes to the tune of ₹200 crore were paid so far.
“Is it written anywhere in the Constitution that the MLAs should not do business?” Janardhan Reddy asked.
He warned of serious action if anyone from the I-T Department attempts to manhandle the staff in his company.
“In case if the department finds any violations in payment of taxes then it can advise us to clear them immediately,” he said.
In the afternoon, the searches at the premises of MP were completed.
The department was believed to have issued a notice to him asking him to appear before it at its office at Ayyakar Bhavan in Basheerbagh in Hyderabad as and when required.
