Synopsis: Trying to dispel the fears of Telangana, N Chandrababu Naidu said both Telugu states will benefit from the link project.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has defended the Godavari-Banakacharla (GB) link project, claiming that it did not hurt Telangana’s interests.

Speaking to media persons at Kuppam, his home constituency, on Thursday, 3 July, Naidu dismissed Telangana’s worries about Banakacharla as unfounded.

He recalled laying foundation stones for several projects in Telangana and asserted that both states could benefit from utilising Godavari waters, with 2,000 TMCFT of water wasted into the sea.

Referring to the government’s focus on healthcare for the poor, he said efforts were on to leverage technology to provide advanced facilities. He also focused on the launch of a DG Nerve Centre in Kuppam in partnership with Tata and the state-wide rollout of a good governance programme. Naidu detailed development and welfare initiatives undertaken in Kuppam over the last year, supported by the Telugu Desam Party’s cadre-based outreach.

P4 scheme

He defended the state’s P4 (Public, Private and People Partnership) policy, and lambasted those who opposing it without contributing to society’s welfare. He accused detractors of obstructing government efforts to reduce poverty through baseless criticism. He said:”P4 initiative is a continuation of his earlier Janmabhoomi programme, aimed at uplifting the poor.”

Naidu cited an example from Timmarajupalli village in Kuppam, wherse a family stepped forward to support the poor through P4, emphasising that such initiatives are the inspiration that he has been seeking. Despite opposition, he affirmed the government’s commitment to reducing economic disparities and improving living standards.

On the agricultural front, Naidu assured support for mango farmers who are facing challenges due to poor international market conditions. He slammed the previous government for neglecting farmers and manipulating land records, stating that eight of the 10 public complaints received now relate to land disputes. The government is addressing these through blockchain technology to restore Andhra Pradesh’s reputation for efficient land record management.

Govt to look into mango farmers’ issues

The chief minister announced that the coalition government has provided pensions to 64 lakh people, incurring an annual expenditure of  ₹34,000 crore, and extended benefits under the Talliki Vandanam scheme to families with up to seven children, with one family receiving ₹1.05 lakh. He also pledged to resolve issues faced by mango farmers, including addressing pulp company syndicates, and underscored the government’s commitment to farmers through initiatives like Rs 2,000 annual aid under the Annadata Sukheebhava scheme.

Naidu expressed concern over the increasing trend in spreading malicious and baseless information by the YSRCP to subserve its political interests. Referring to the death of YSRCP worker Singaiah (he was run over by a car in which former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was travelling in Palandu district recently), he said that when the YSRCP workers left the injured person to his fate and moved on, it was the government which had shifted him to hospital.

Now Singaiah’s widow is being tutored to say that she suspected foul play when her husband was being taken to hospital which made him die. “We have to be wary of such elements who made her speak lies. These elements are masquerading as politicians,” Naidu said.
