Voting underway at Wayanad's Chekkadi
On Wednesday, 13 November, bypolls were held in 31 Assembly seats across 10 states and Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
Wayanad garnered national attention with Priyanka Gandhi making her electoral debut from the seat vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi.
In Karnataka, JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy is contesting from Channapatna against Congress’ CP Yogeeshwara. The seat was vacated by Union minister and Nikhil’s father HD Kumaraswamy, after he was elected to the Lok Sabha.
Meanwhile, BJP has fielded former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s son, Bharath Bommai, from Shiggaon, who will face Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan. Bypolls are also underway in Sandur in Karnataka.
Bypolls to all the constituencies in Kerala went peacefully, except for a minor clash between Congress workers and cops in Chelakkara’s Chelakkara’s Desamangalam.
The clash allegedly took place over disruption of voting slip distribution at several polling booths.
At 6 pm, Wayanad Lok Sabha Constituency registered a voter turnout of 62.86 percent, with 9,25,174 voters out of a total of 14,71,742 people casting their votes.

To ply the voters from these wards to their respective booths, the district administration arranged "Vote Vehicles" (Vote Vandi) in five routes.
In a bid to ensure a smooth and secure election process, special security arrangements have been made for 26 sensitive polling booths in Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, with additional security assigned based on prior assessments.
Of these, 5 sensitive booths are in Eranad, 17 in Nilambur, and four in Wandoor.
There’s a notable emphasis on gender inclusivity and model stations this time, with nine booths staffed entirely by women officers to encourage female voter turnout and nine model polling stations (three per assembly constituency) designed to offer an upgraded voting experience.
In the previous election cycle, the voter turnout reached 72.69 percent. This time, arrangements include a total of 1,335 polling booths across the district.
Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency has gained national attention with Priyanka Gandhi's electoral debut. She will face CPI veteran leader Sathyan Mokeri and BJP's Navya Haridas.
Wayanad is set for a significant Lok Sabha by-election, with extensive preparations finalised under the direction of District Collector VR Vinodh and Police Chief R Viswanath.
Polling began at 7 am across the constituency, which includes the assembly segments of Eranad, Wandoor, and Nilambur.
A total of 595 polling stations, supplemented by 25 auxiliary booths, have been arranged to accommodate the constituency’s large voter base, which exceeds 14 lakh registered voters.
Chelakkara, a stronghold of the LDF for 28 years, is preparing for a high-stakes by-election with enhanced security arrangements.
In light of the by-election, Thrissur District Collector Arjun Pandian has announced comprehensive arrangements to ensure a smooth voting process.
A total of 864 polling officers and 14 micro-observers will be stationed across Chelakkara, supported by a 600-strong police presence to manage security.
Out of the 150 polling booths, 14 have been identified as sensitive and will be under heightened vigilance. Live webcams have been installed at all booths to monitor proceedings.
