BJYM workers storm Telangana police headquarters, also the DGP Anjani Kumar office

Breaching the security at the Telangana Police Headquarters at Lakdikapul in Hyderabad, activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) entered the premises and went almost halfway to the building on Saturday, 28 January.

The workers were immediately evicted from the premises. DGP Anjani Kumar was in office when the incident happened.

The BJP claimed that BJYM state president Bhanu Prakash was injured in the incident. He has been kept under observation at the Global Hospital.

The BJYM, the youth wing of the BJP, took out a rally, ‘Chalo DGP’, seeking justice for aspiring sub-inspector and constable candidates.

On 9 January, students and youth organisations of Left parties laid siege to Pragathi Bhavan raising the same demand.

While raising slogans against the State government and demanding justice, the protesters alleged several irregularities in the SI and constable recruitment process. They claimed the tough physical fitness tests harassed the unemployed youth.

Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay condemned the police action and termed it “high-handedness”.

20 BJYM workers in custody

The police said a large number of BJYM activists, led by its president Prakash, arrived at the high-security DGP office, leaving the security officers off guard.

“Holding party flags, the BJYM workers scaled the main gate and entered the office premises. Some of them even reached almost halfway to the building from the main gate,” Katna Sattaiah, SHO Lakdikapul, told South First.

He added that even cops suffered injuries in the incident.

Visuals posted on social media showed the security personnel forcefully removing BJYM workers before detaining them.

The Lakdikapul police have registered a case under IPC Section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty) and 441 (trespassing).

BJP reacts

Taking to social media, Bandi Sanjay alleged that the KCR-led BRS government was trying to prevent the BJP from questioning the fairness of the exams.

“Time has come for KCR to go who as unemployed youth are fed up of his tactics. We stand by our BJYM leaders Bhanu Prakash, Arun Kumar & Pullela Shiva who were seriously injured [sic],” he added.

The BJP also claimed that its workers were protesting peacefully and “were indiscriminately baton-charged by the police”. The police denied the claim.
