The BJP is in overdrive now in Telangana.
The party, which is basking in the success of its national executive and the public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, is understood to have decided to keep the momentum going to create an impression that it alone could challenge Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his TRS in Telangana in the next elections.
If BJP state president Bandi Sanjay kicked off the third phase of his Praja Sangrama Yatra from the temple town of Yadadri in Yadadri Bhongir district on Tuesday, 2 August, to wash KCR’s “dirty linen” in the public, the other state leaders are in Delhi, discussing strategies to bring down the TRS government.
At Yadadri, the BJP organised a huge public meeting to mark the commencement of the third leg of Bandi Sanjay’s padayatra. Union Ministers Gajendra Shekhawat and G Kishan Reddy were among the leaders who addressed the meeting.
Shekhawat warned KCR that he should get ready to step down as Bandi Sanjay’s team is all set to win the elections.
He said that after the formation of Telangana, it was only KCR and his family which benefited most and not the people, and therefore he should go. Kishan Reddy slammed KCR for not visiting the secretariat even once in eight years. He asked KCR why he had ignored those who had fought for Telangana.
Meanwhile, bike rallies are being undertaken in assembly segments since July 21 in the name of Praja Gosa to rally people behind the BJP. The party leaders would tour 30 segments in each of the three phases.
Bandi Sanjay began his first padayatra from Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Hyderabad, the second from Jogulamba Shakti Peetham in Alampur in Gadwal district. The present padayatra will conclude at Bhadrakali temple in Hanamkonda on 26 August. The BJP state chief is expected to espouse the Hindutva cause and lay bare the “minorities’ appeasement” politics of KCR.
With Munugode Congress MLA K Rajagopal Reddy showing interest in joining the BJP, the leaders who are in Delhi are expected to take up the issue with him and seek advice on how to handle his entry into the party. According to sources, the BJP does not want to hurry Rajagopal Reddy but leave the decision to him as to when he would switch sides.
The leaders who are in Delhi — DK Aruna, Eatala Rajender, K Laxman and G Vivek- are likely to confer with party chief JP Nadda. They would also apprise the party leadership of probables from other parties who might cross over.
