At least 19 killed as speeding truck rams into TGSRTC bus on Hyderabad outskirts

Synopsis: At least 16 people were killed and 10 others were injured in a major road accident in Telangana. The collision occurred in Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district when a speeding truck rammed head-on into a passenger bus.

At least 19 people, including eight women and a fifteen-month-old toddler, were killed and 10 others were injured in a major road accident under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits in the outskirts of Hyderabad in Telangana early on Monday, 3 November.

The collision occurred near Khanapur Gate in Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district when a speeding truck, reportedly travelling on the wrong side of the road, rammed head-on into a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) passenger bus.

The impact was so severe that several passengers died on the spot, while others sustained grievous injuries.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed grief over the road accident. He immediately reached the accident site and directed the officials to undertake necessary relief measures. He said that complete details related to the accident should be provided from time to time.

The chief minister directed the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) to make arrangements to immediately transport the injured from the bus accident to Hyderabad and provide them with better medical treatment.

The chief minister said that the ministers available should reach the accident site immediately and monitor the situation. He further directed the District Collector to intensify relief measures and take all necessary actions.

Death toll likely to rise

Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene to shift the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials cautioned that the death toll may rise as some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed shock over the incident and directed authorities to provide immediate relief and ensure quality medical treatment for the injured. He also sought a detailed report on the cause of the accident and the condition of the survivors.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver, who was driving on the wrong side, may have lost control of the vehicle. Police have launched a probe and are working to identify the victims.

Several passengers were trapped under the debris. One woman was visibly in pain and calling for help, half-buried under the gravel. Other passengers and bystanders were seen trying to dig through the stones to free the trapped victims.

The interior of the bus shows severe damage, with bent metal rods, seats displaced, and debris scattered everywhere.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha expressed deep shock over the horrific accident and spoke over the phone with senior officials of the Medical and Health Department. He inquired about the condition of those injured and undergoing treatment at the Chevella Government Hospital and directed that all critically injured persons be shifted to Hyderabad for advanced treatment.

The minister also instructed senior health officials to visit the hospitals immediately and oversee the medical arrangements.

Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, who is in charge of the Ranga Reddy district, expressed deep shock and anguish. The minister immediately alerted the District Collector, police officials, and senior officers of the departments concerned and sought a detailed report on how the accident occurred. He also sought information on the present condition of the injured.

The minister also instructed the senior officials of the Medical and Health Department to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured at the Chevella Government Hospital. He held a teleconference with the relevant authorities to monitor the situation and review the measures being taken.

He further directed officials overseeing the rescue operations to reassure the victims and their families that the government stands firmly by them. He instructed that complete information about every injured person must be promptly communicated to their family members.
