The new Governor of Goa

Ashok Gajapathi Raju, a senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party, hails from the royal Pusapati family of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh.

A seven-time MLA, Raju has held key roles at both the state and national levels. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Vizianagaram in 2014 and served as Union Minister for Civil Aviation in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first cabinet.

During his tenure, Raju was known for spearheading the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, initiating new airport projects in Rajamahendravaram and Kadapa, and introducing India’s first no-fly list for unruly passengers.

He resigned from the Union Cabinet in protest over the denial of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
