WhatsApp's parent company Meta acknowledged the outage, but have not released any official statement on the issue.
WhatsApp, the popular communication app owned by Meta, was briefly down on Tuesday, 25 October, affecting its almost 600 million users in India.
Many users reported issues with sending and receiving messages on the communication platform that is not just used by individuals but businesses as well, and has grown to be an integral part of how Indians communicate with each other at the official and personal levels.
The outage happened around 03.17 EDT, or around 12.47 India time. However, the app was back on track a little after 2 pm.
Outage detection website DownDetector took to Twitter to confirm that many users across the world were unable to use the platform.
The website mentioned the major cities affected by the outage — Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata — but millions of users in other parts of the country likely faced technical difficulties.
