Synopsis: Andhra Pradesh stood second in the country by clocking 8.21 percent growth in GSDP in 2024–25, at constant prices with base year 2011–12. Andhra Pradesh came second after Tamil Nadu, which clocked a growth of 9.59 percent.

For Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the revelation that his state stood second in the country by clocking 8.21 percent growth in GSDP in 2024–25, at constant prices with base year 2011–12, has come as a shot in the arm.

Hard up for finances with near-empty coffers and commitments in the form of welfare schemes staring at him, the chief minister appeared to be gasping for breath as he had to balance development with welfare and at the same time crank up the engine of the economy.

His is a job no one envies.

CM expresses happiness

He made a statement on X after the statistics of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation pronounced that Andhra Pradesh was runner-up in the GSDP growth.

An upbeat Naidu wrote on X: “As per the latest data from @GoIStats, our state has registered the 2nd highest growth rate in the country for 2024–25, with 8.21% growth. In less than a year of forming the government, our policies have moved Andhra Pradesh from a state of distress to a state of growth and renewed confidence.

“This progress has been driven by a broad-based revival across agriculture, manufacturing, and services, alongside significant investments in IT, electronics, automobiles, and renewable energy. I congratulate my people of Andhra Pradesh for this collective achievement. Let us continue to build a brighter future together!”

Andhra Pradesh came second after Tamil Nadu, which clocked a growth of 9.59 percent. According to the Ministry of Statistics, Telangana, touted as the state on the move on a fast lane to growth, came seventh with a growth of 6.97 percent. The MOSPI said the data for as many as 15 states was not available.

The Socio-Economic Survey of Andhra Pradesh for 2024–25 had projected the GSDP growth rate at 12.94 percent at current prices.

Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav had said that the GSDP growth rate at current prices is estimated at 12.94 percent over the previous year as per the advanced estimates for 2024–25. The minister pointed out that various sectors including agriculture, industry, and services were contributing to the growth rate significantly.
