Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday, 21 August, reportedly expressed his displeasure over the conduct of certain TDP MLAs, whose actions are perceived to have tarnished the image of the ruling party.
During a cabinet meeting at the state secretariat in Amaravati, after the official business was over, Naidu reportedly did not hold back while reprimanding the wayward legislators for bringing disrepute to the party.
The chief minister is learnt to have made it clear that he would no longer tolerate such indiscipline and issued a stern warning that MLAs engaging in unlawful behaviour under the assumption of immunity due to their affiliation with the ruling party would have to face consequences.
He made no bones about taking legal action against such legislators if necessary and directed district-in-charge ministers to rein in flippant MLAs.
Earlier in the day, IT Minister Nara Lokesh held an informal breakfast meeting with ministers, where he addressed the need for public decorum. Lokesh expressed frustration over the MLAs’ actions, particularly criticising Budda Rajasekhar Reddy’s attack on forest staff.
He warned that such unruly behaviour would not be tolerated, as it undermines the party’s image, especially in light of the TDP’s recent victory in the YSRCP stronghold of Pulivendula in the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) by-elections.
Lokesh also cautioned ministers to be vigilant about recommendations for parole for those in jail, citing a recent case involving a rowdy sheeter that embarrassed the party. He urged the Home Minister to guard against such manipulations by party leaders.
According to sources, Naidu and Lokesh were particularly upset with four MLAs who recently made headlines for the wrong reasons: Budda Rajasekhar Reddy (Srisailam), Kuna Ravi Kumar (Amudalavalasa), Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad (Anantapur) and Naseer Ahmed (Guntur East).
The most recent incident involved Rajasekhar Reddy, who allegedly assaulted and kidnapped four forest department staff near Sikharama checkpost near Srisailam on the night of 19 August. The MLA reportedly claimed that the forest staff were uncooperative despite his ruling party status.
According to the FIR filed at the local police station, Reddy and his follower, Ashok Routh (named A1), abused, physically assaulted, and forcibly drove the officials around in a vehicle until 2 am. Reddy was named A2 in the case. The incident prompted strong disapproval from Naidu, who sought a detailed report from forest and police officials. The Andhra Pradesh Joint Forest Officers Association also condemned Reddy’s actions.
In another incident, Anantapur MLA Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad sparked controversy with derogatory remarks against actor Jr NTR, inflaming the sentiments of the actor’s fans. A leaked audio clip, which went viral recently, allegedly had Prasad abusing Jr NTR and calling for a boycott of the film War 2 in Anantapur.
The clip triggered protests from Jr NTR fans, who tore down the MLA’s hoardings and demanded an apology. Prasad denied the allegations, claiming a political conspiracy, but issued a conditional apology.
Amudalavalasa MLA Kuna Ravi Kumar faced allegations of harassing a school principal, who reported receiving late-night calls, video demands, and pressure to visit the party office under the guise of discussing school admissions.
The principal also claimed she was abruptly removed from her position. The accusations, reported recently, sparked public outrage. Ravi Kumar dismissed the claims as baseless, accusing the principal of deflecting attention from corruption allegations against her.
In Guntur East, MLA Naseer Ahmed faced allegations of sexual misconduct in August 2025, drawing significant backlash. A viral video further fueled the controversy, though its authenticity remains under scrutiny. Naidu and party leaders expressed strong disapproval of Ahmed’s conduct.
