Synopsis: BJP expelled former Union Power Minister RK Singh for six years over “anti-party activities” after he accused the Bihar govt of a Rs 62,000 crore Adani power scam. Singh alleged inflated Rs 6/unit rates for Bhagalpur project. The saffron party also suspended MLC Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal in post-election crackdown on Bihar rebels.
In a shocking purge of dissenters, the BJP on Saturday, 15 November, expelled former Union power minister and ex-Arrah MP RK Singh from the party for six years. The saffron party cited “anti-party activities” and accused Singh of “repeated breaches” of organisational discipline.
The BJP also suspended Bihar MLC Ashok Kumar Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal on similar grounds as it moved swiftly to curb rebellion within its Bihar unit.
Singh has been directed to submit a formal reply within one week.
The decision followed a strongly worded show-cause notice issued earlier in the day, which stated: “You are indulging in anti-party activities this has caused harm to the party. Therefore, you are being suspended and asked to explain why you should not be expelled.”
Within hours, the party confirmed his expulsion from primary membership.Singh’s removal represents one of the BJP’s sternest disciplinary measures in recent years.
Friction within the NDA had been mounting over Singh’s explosive claims of a massive power-sector scam involving the Adani Group.
The former Union Power Minister (2017–2024) publicly challenged the Bihar government’s award of the 2,400 MW Bhagalpur (Pirpainti) power project to Adani Power Ltd, alleging it constituted a Rs 60,000–62,000 crore scam through an inflated purchase rate of Rs 6 per unit that would burden the poor and middle class.
His accusations triggered a political firestorm, with Congress leader KC Venugopal and Left leaders, including CPI(ML)’s Dipankar Bhattacharya, citing Singh to attack the NDA.
Singh further widened the rift by urging voters to reject candidates with criminal records, including NDA nominees, and to opt for NOTA if no clean candidate was available.
Earlier this month, he posted documents on his official X handle alleging a ₹62,000-crore scam and criticised the Election Commission for failing to enforce the Model Code of Conduct.
He condemned large armed convoys during the campaign as “a flagrant violation of democratic norms” and demanded strict action.
RK Singh, a two-term Arrah MP and former Minister of State for Power and Renewable Energy, had lost his seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Separately, the BJP suspended MLC Ashok Kumar Agarwal for campaigning for his son Saurav Agarwal, who contested as a VIP candidate against the official BJP nominee Tar Kishore Prasad, terming it clear anti-party activity.
Also, Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal was also suspended for alleged anti-party activities, making her the third leader disciplined in the ongoing crackdown.
