The Kerala Department of Environment has informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that a detailed action plan is being implemented to reduce pollution in the Kadambrayar river in Ernakulam.
The plan was prepared by a district-level technical team comprising officials from the Irrigation Department, Pollution Control Board, Industries and Local Self-Government Departments, and the District Collector. It has been approved by the Central Pollution Control Board and is now being put into action.
Key measures include the removal of water hyacinth and silt from the river and ensuring a steady flow of water.
Authorities will also identify pollution sources – such as industries, apartments, hotels, waste dumping areas, and illegal drains – and take steps to shut them down.
The aim is to clean and restore the ecological health of the Kadambrayar.
