11 killed in head-on collision between state-run buses in Tamil Nadu’s Sivagangai district

Synopsis: Eleven people were killed in Tamil Nadu’s Sivagangai district early on Sunday, 30 November, when two state-run buses collided head on. Four passengers died at the scene and seven others succumbed to their injuries in hospital, while several critically injured survivors are receiving intensive treatment.

A road accident in Tamil Nadu’s Sivagangai district claimed 11 lives early on Sunday morning, 30 November, after two State Transport Corporation buses collided head on.

Initial reports suggest four people died on the spot. Seven others who had sustained serious injuries later succumbed while undergoing treatment in hospitals.

Of the 11 deceased, the bodies of four women have been sent to the Sivagangai Government Hospital for post-mortem examination, four to the Karaikudi Government Hospital, and three to the Tirupattur Government Hospital.

Joint rescue and relief operation by police and district administration

District administration and police officials are jointly carrying out intensive rescue and relief measures at both the accident site and the hospitals.

The Sivagangai District Collector visited the Tirupattur Government Hospital, met the injured, consoled them, and obtained details from doctors regarding the treatment being provided. He also directed officials to expedite rescue and medical operations.

Sivagangai Superintendent of Police Siva Prasad inspected the accident spot, while Karaikudi MLA Mangudi visited the site and the hospitals to review the situation.

More than 10 ambulances from the 108 emergency service were deployed, and the injured were taken to government hospitals in Sivagangai, Karaikudi, and Tirupattur.
