Mundakkai-Chooralmala township to be ready by December: Kerala Minister K Rajan

Revenue and Housing Minister K Rajan announced that the construction of houses in the township for survivors of the Mundakkai–Chooralmala disaster will be completed by December this year.

The township, coming up at Elston Estate in Kalpetta, will house over 1,662 people in 410 newly built homes.

Speaking after reviewing the progress at the site, the minister said the construction is divided into five zones, with 140 houses in the first, 51 in the second, 55 in the third, 51 in the fourth, and 113 in the fifth zone.

Foundation works for several houses have been completed, while other works are progressing rapidly. The model house, delayed due to adverse weather, will be finished by July.

Rajan clarified that funds for the township are kept in a dedicated account, and are not included in the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

A committee comprising the chief minister, opposition leader, and sponsor representatives is monitoring the financial operations to ensure transparency.

The minister also assured that concerns of those left out from Padavettikunnu would be addressed, and the government remains committed to protecting disaster victims.

District officials and revenue officers were present at the review meet.
