Thiruvananthapuram will host a state-level programme, Smriti Vandanam 2025, on 13 August to commemorate posthumous organ donors and honour their families.
The event, organised by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (K-SOTTO) as part of National/International Organ Donation Day, will be inaugurated by Health Minister Veena George at 3 pm at Tagore Theatre, Vazhuthacaud. MLA Antony Raju will preside over the function.
The programme aims to pay tribute to individuals who have given life to others through organ donation after death, and to recognise the selfless decision of their families.
Relatives of 122 donors from November 2017 to July 2025, along with organ recipients, will attend.
Awards will be presented to individuals and teams who have excelled in the field of cadaver organ donation, including those involved from brain death certification to transplant surgery.
A short awareness video, produced by KSFDC for K-SOTTO, will be released.
Donor families and recipients will share personal experiences, and special counters will be set up for those wishing to register as organ donors.
Senior health department officials, medical experts, and public representatives will also participate in the function.
