Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), India’s leading public sector shipbuilder, has entered a strategic partnership with South Korea’s HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), a unit of HD Hyundai, to boost global competitiveness and strengthen India’s shipbuilding capabilities.

According to The Korea Herald, the agreement includes cooperation in ship design, technology, equipment supply, and workforce development.

The move supports India’s long-term maritime goals under initiatives like Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The Union government recently launched a ₹25,000 crore Maritime Development Fund to enhance port infrastructure, coastal shipping, and shipbuilding.

CSL, based in Kerala, has delivered 70 vessels in the past five years, ranging from commercial ships to aircraft carriers. The collaboration is also expected to create new opportunities for Indian suppliers in overseas markets.

Market analysts project India’s shipbuilding industry to grow over 60 percent annually through 2033, having expanded more than 12-fold since 2022.
