CM Stalin flags off 120 electric buses in Chennai to boost green mobility

In a significant push towards reducing urban pollution and advancing sustainable transport, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday flagged off 120 new low-floor electric buses in Chennai. This marks the first such large-scale electric bus initiative under the Tamil Nadu State Transport Department.

Launched by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), the eco-friendly buses were procured at a cost of ₹207.90 crore as part of the state’s broader green mobility mission. Officials say the modern fleet will not only lower vehicular emissions but also improve commuter experience and accessibility across the city.
