CIAL plans IT park near Kochi airport to ease space crunch

With Kochi increasingly drawing the attention of global IT companies, the shortage of space in existing IT hubs has become a pressing concern.

In response, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) is exploring the development of a 20-acre IT/ITES park on its premises in Nedumbassery, opposite the CIAL convention centre.

The project is still in its conceptual phase, with CIAL recently issuing a tender to appoint a qualified consultancy firm to conduct a feasibility study and prepare a master plan.

A CIAL official confirmed that no final decision has been taken yet.

“We’re at the stage of selecting the consultant. All key aspects, including the execution model and revenue streams – whether through public-private partnership or other modes – will be decided only after the feasibility report is submitted,” the official said.

Notably, this park will be entirely managed by CIAL, with no involvement from Infopark. However, the option to lease land to interested developers or companies remains open, depending on how the plan evolves.

Industry voices have welcomed the idea, with IBS Group Chairman VK Mathews stating that a tech park right next to an international airport would be highly attractive to multinational firms.

He emphasised the need for Kerala to expand its IT infrastructure to meet growing demand and said such a project could benefit both Kochi and the wider state.
