Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao visiting the victims
Prohibition and Excise Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao visited victims admitted to NIMS Hospital after consuming adulterated toddy in Balanagar. Expressing deep concern over the incident, the minister interacted with the 15 patients, assured them of government support, and wished them a speedy recovery.
Speaking to the media, Jupalli said timely action by police and excise officials ensured immediate hospitalisation. All patients are now stable and under observation. Preliminary symptoms indicate poisoning, and samples have been sent to forensic labs for analysis.
A case has been registered, and several suspects have been detained for questioning. The minister confirmed that the toddy depots involved have been sealed, and their licenses may be revoked following the investigation results.
“This is a serious threat to public health. We won’t tolerate negligence,” Jupalli stated, promising criminal action against the guilty. To prevent such incidents in future, the Excise Department has been instructed to form special monitoring teams and increase vigilance across toddy outlets.
Excise Commissioner Harikiran, NIMS Director Dr. Birappa, and senior medical staff accompanied the minister during the visit.
