Friends and relatives of a young Malayali couple found dead in their Gurugram apartment are struggling to reconcile the tragedy with the life they appeared to share, as police investigate suspicions that the husband killed his wife before taking his own life.

Muhammed Aslam, 30, from Pullavoor in Koduvally, Kozhikode, and his wife Farhana, 28, from Nediyiruppu in Kondotty, Malappuram, were found dead inside their flat at Marina Society in Sector 68 on Thursday.

The couple, who had no children, had moved to Gurugram a few months ago after living and working in Bengaluru.

For those who knew them, the news has come as a shock, with no apparent indication of the circumstances that led to their deaths.

Muhammed Unais, Farhana’s childhood friend and neighbour, said he found it difficult to believe that she could have taken her own life.

He recalled a couple who appeared happy together and often shared their travel experiences with friends.

“Farhana always had a warm and pleasant personality. They seemed to share the same outlook on life and loved travelling together. They posted photographs from their trips on social media and encouraged me and my wife, Faseela, to join them. The news of her death came as a complete shock,” Unais told the media.

Both had held well-paying jobs in Bengaluru before moving to Haryana.

Farhana had a BTech degree. Unais said she came from an educated family, with her sister working as a teacher and her brother involved in civil services coaching.

Aslam was working as an IT professional at a private firm in Gurugram.

Police, meanwhile, suspect that Aslam killed Farhana before taking his own life.

Badshahpur Police said they had not established the motive and that the investigation was ongoing. The findings of the post-mortem examinations were also awaited.

According to preliminary reports, Aslam had allegedly emailed his employer before the incident, sharing the contact details of his father and the landlord. Investigators are expected to examine the email as part of the inquiry.

The bodies were moved to a mortuary at Sadar Bazar in Delhi for post-mortem examinations.

Farhana’s relatives have reached Gurugram, and the bodies are expected to be brought to Keralam for the last rites.
