POCSO case: Thiruvananthapuram court sentences 43-year-old man to 47 years of rigorous imprisonment

Thiruvananthapuram Fast track special court has sentenced a 43-year-old man to 47 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him ₹32,000 for sexually assaulting his 15 year-old relative.
Judge Anju Meera Birla awarded the sentence under various POCSO provisions.
Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional three years and three months in prison.
The prosecution said the incident occurred on May 24, 2025, after the accused called the boy to his house on the pretext of asking him to bring rice for chickens.
He allegedly took the boy inside and assaulted him when no one else was present.
The boy initially remained silent out of fear but later disclosed the assault to his sister. Despite relatives advising the family against approaching the police because the accused was a relative, his mother filed a complaint with Valiyathura police.
The prosecution examined 16 witnesses and produced 16 documents and three material objects. Special Public Prosecutors R.S Vijay Mohan and Surabhi P appeared for the prosecution.
