The blood test report of Suhail Sajeev, the prime accused in the Nedumbassery Mini Cooper crash case, has confirmed that he was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident, according to police.

Three youngsters, including two women, were killed in the crash.

Investigators found that three of the four accused had consumed alcohol from different bars before the accident. Police collected evidence from the crash site and a bar from where Suhail allegedly bought the drinks ahead of the incident.

Meanwhile, authorities at Kakkanad Borstal School, where Suhail and co-accused Ninav are lodged, clarified that Suhail’s haircut following his admission was part of routine hygiene procedures for remand inmates. They dismissed social media claims that he had cut his hair voluntarily.

The decision to move Suhail and his friend Ninav to Kakkanad Borstal School had triggered a separate controversy.

Police have cited Prison Rule 324 as the basis for the transfer.

However, questions have been raised over the applicability of the provision, as the Kerala Borstal Schools Act, 1961, provides for the admission of persons sentenced to imprisonment, while Suhail is an undertrial prisoner on remand.

The accident occurred around 1.45 am on October 11, near the Athani-Valepuram area on Nedumbassery Airport Road.

Three youngsters identified as Devika alias Kukku (21) from Kalpetta in Wayanad, Gopika (21) from Edakkurissi in Mannarkkad, and Iyas (21) from Karnataka’s Sullia were killed in the crash.

Suhail, a B.Com student at a private college in Kochi, was detained by locals and handed over to the Nedumbassery police after getting into a verbal altercation with people at the scene following the crash.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was speeding, with police suspecting it was travelling at over 120 kmph.

A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against him under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
