Synopsis: She had travelled to Kullu and Manali with a group of friends during a week-long holiday declared by the university following violence during a student protest that led to clashes between students and police over the alleged rape of a female student on campus.
A 22-year-old MBA student from Kottayam was among four people killed after a bus carrying passengers from Kullu to Manali reportedly crashed into a divider and fell from a flyover in Punjab.
Josna George, a native of Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam was a second-year MBA student at Lovely Professional University (LPU).
She had travelled to Kullu and Manali with a group of friends during a week-long holiday declared by the university following violence during a student protest that led to clashes between students and police over the alleged rape of a female student on campus.
Josna was among six students returning from the trip when the accident occurred. The group had travelled to the hill stations using shared buses and other modes of transport.
According to information shared by sources in Mohali, the bus was coming down from a flyover when the driver reportedly dozed off. The vehicle hit the divider and fell from the flyover onto the side of the service road.
The driver, conductor and another passenger were among the four people who died in the accident.
Josna was seated towards the rear of the bus, near a window. The impact reportedly threw her out of the vehicle, after which the bus fell on her.
Her post-mortem examination has been completed, and her body is being taken to Christian Medical College (CMC) in Ludhiana, where it will be kept in the mortuary.
Her body will be embalmed before being transported to Kottayam. The Malayali association in Punjab has made arrangements for the transportation, with a flight to be booked based on the convenience of her relatives.
Josna’s father, George, and a relative are travelling to Punjab and are expected to reach Ludhiana on Monday night.
Josna is survived by her parents, two siblings and grandparents. Further proceedings will be decided after her body reaches her hometown.
