Synopsis: Keralam’s Murali Sreeshankar won his second consecutive Asian Games silver in the men’s long jump with an 8.07m effort in Nagoya, despite suffering a leg injury. China’s Shi Yuhao won gold with 8.17m, while Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took bronze with 8.06m. The other Indian in the event, Patturaj David Solomon, finished seventh with a best effort of 7.70m.
Keralam athlete Murali Sreeshankar won his second consecutive Asian Games silver medal in the men’s long jump, clearing 8.07 metres in Nagoya despite suffering a leg injury that forced him to withdraw before completing all six attempts.
China’s Shi Yuhao won the gold with an 8.17m effort, while Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took the bronze with 8.06m.
The silver adds to Sreeshankar’s medal from the previous Asian Games. He has also won silver at the Asian Championships and two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games.
The other Indian in the event, Patturaj David Solomon, finished seventh with a best effort of 7.70m.

Sreeshankar fell on the track on his fourth attempt. He subsequently withdrew and did not take his final two attempts.
Sreeshankar opened with 7.66m and produced his medal-winning jump in his second attempt. He then managed 7.56m in his third attempt before suffering the injury while attempting a better jump in the fourth.
He fell on the track after the attempt and was helped off the field by the medical team. He subsequently withdrew and did not take his final two attempts.
The jumping area was wet after rain, prompting suggestions that it might have contributed to the injury.
