Synopsis: The Keralam State GST Department has detected suspected tax evasion of ₹7.56 crore by vehicle parking service providers at Southern Railway stations, following inspections at 69 locations. Officials said 22 taxpayers were found to have allegedly suppressed ₹42 crore in turnover, with discrepancies between GST returns and actual parking revenue.
The Keralam State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department said it has detected suspected tax evasion of ₹7.56 crore by vehicle parking service providers operating at Southern Railway stations in the State, following inspections at 69 locations.
The Intelligence and Enforcement Wing conducted the joint inspections on 16 September at the principal places of business, residences and additional business premises of 22 taxpayers providing parking services on railway premises.
The inspections found a substantial mismatch between the turnover declared in GST returns and the revenue actually generated from parking services. Officials said they also detected cash transactions involving multiple QR codes, indicating suppression of business receipts.
The department’s preliminary findings point to suppression of turnover amounting to ₹42 crore and tax evasion of ₹7.56 crore.

Transactional data relating to 13 taxpayers was retrieved from their software systems. For the remaining taxpayers, officials collected information from account books, registers and mobile chat records.
The department is examining the financial and transactional records collected during the inspections as part of the ongoing investigation.
The State GST Intelligence Wing has also collected details of more than 1,000 vehicle parking facilities operating at KSRTC depots, hospitals, malls and cinema theatres.
The department said inspections would be extended to establishments where tax evasion is suspected. It has urged the public to share information on tax evasion confidentially at inform.sgst@kerala.gov.in.
