Synopsis: A fire broke out at the nearly 200-year-old Koder House, a heritage building on Tower Road in Fort Kochi, on Tuesday, September 29. Fire and Rescue Services personnel reached the three-storey building and were working to contain the blaze. One of Fort Kochi’s prominent historic buildings, Koder House is known for its Indo-Portuguese architecture and now functions as a boutique hotel.
The cause of the fire is not known.
A fire broke out at Koder House, a nearly 200-year-old heritage building in Fort Kochi, Keralam, on Tuesday, September 29. The blaze was reported from the three-storey building on Tower Road.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel reached the property and began efforts to contain the fire. Firefighting operations were still under way. The extent of damage to the building and the cause of the fire were not known. No casualties or injuries have been reported.
Koder House is among the prominent historic buildings in Fort Kochi. Built by Samuel S Koder, who was associated with the Cochin Electric Company, the building is associated with Kochi’s Jewish history.
The building, known for its Indo-Portuguese architecture, now functions as a boutique hotel and is part of Fort Kochi’s historic architectural landscape.
