The agitation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will continue until India has an independent and impartial electoral system, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke said on Saturday, 7 November, as hundreds of people gathered in Kochi, Keralam, to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The protest, organised under the banner ‘Jantar Mantar @ Kochi’, saw actor and activist Prakash Raj lead a march from Marine Drive to Rajendra Maidan.

Participants, including young people, civil rights activists and citizens, demanded the withdrawal of the SIR exercise and Kumar’s resignation.

Dipke, who travelled from Delhi to attend the demonstration, reached Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery around 3.30 pm after a flight delay. He proceeded directly to the protest venue.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, he alleged that the Election Commission under Kumar could not be trusted to conduct impartial elections and accused it of favouring one political party.

“This is a people’s protest. I am here at the invitation of the organisers and Prakash Raj. Our fight against Gyanesh Kumar will continue until we secure an independent and impartial electoral system in the country,” he said.

Dipke also claimed that Keralam had the most registered CJP members, based on the party’s database.

The protest follows the detention of CJP leaders and volunteers during their demonstration at Jantar Mantar in the national capital last month.
