Synopsis: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has tendered an unconditional apology to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant for an “unauthorised post” on its official X account that demanded his resignation and suggested the party would find a replacement. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has tendered an unconditional apology to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant for an “unauthorised post” on the official X account of the Congress’s Kerala unit that demanded his resignation and suggested that the party would find a replacement for him.
In a reply to a legal notice dated 22 October, KPCC president Sunny Joseph said the post, published on 12 October, was unauthorised and did not represent the position of either the KPCC or the Congress. He said Vijay Thottathil, who published the post, had been removed from his position within the media cell and directed to issue a public apology.
Joseph, who is also the State Electricity Minister, said the KPCC disapproved of the language used in the post.
“On its behalf, I tender an unconditional apology to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India for the publication and the disrespect conveyed by its language,” he wrote.
“The absence of prior authorisation is offered as a factual explanation, not as a justification for the expressions used.”
Joseph said an external professional agency was involved in operating the official account. The party would examine the arrangements governing access to the account, the authority entrusted to its operators and the approval procedures for official communications, he said.
Joseph said relevant electronic records, access logs, approval records and internal communications would be preserved in the event of an inquiry.
