Synopsis: As political messaging heats up ahead of the polls, the Kadakku Puraath campaign marks a sharp escalation in the Congress-led UDF’s digital and narrative attack on the LDF, signalling that the battle for Kerala may be fought as much online as on the ground.
With the Kerala Assembly elections drawing closer, the Congress cyber wing has rolled out a striking new digital offensive against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) by launching a dedicated campaign website — “Kadakku Purath” — a phrase borrowed from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s infamous remark to journalists meaning “Get out”.
The initiative seeks to turn what was once a controversial comment by the Chief Minister into a political slogan aimed squarely at the LDF government, which is nearing a decade in power.
A Congress-affiliated social media handle announcing the campaign claimed that the “downfall of the Pinarayi Vijayan government, which has ruled Kerala for the last nine and a half years, has begun”.
According to the post, the campaign is positioned as a platform for public participation.
“The incoming UDF government is committed to listening to the grievances of the people of Kerala in a difficult situation and finding appropriate solutions,” the post said, inviting citizens to take part in the Kadakku Puraath campaign and air their complaints, grievances and opinions.
The website also offers a sharp political twist to the LDF’s earlier campaign slogan “LDF will come and everything will be right”, rephrasing it as: “LDF will go and everything will be fixed.”
A prominent section of the site carries what it describes as a “charge sheet” against the LDF government.
Among the allegations listed are claims that the Chief Minister “protects comrades” involved in the alleged theft of gold from the Ayyappa temple, branding the administration as a “thieves’ government”.
It also alleges that Kerala’s once-celebrated public health system has been “put on a ventilator” under the current regime.
The campaign further accuses the Pinarayi Vijayan government of eroding Kerala’s secular fabric by aligning with forces that “spew communal venom”, alleging that the LDF is fostering communal divisions rather than resisting them.
Another charge levelled is that the government has squandered “hundreds of crores of rupees” on foreign trips and publicity campaigns aimed at image-building rather than governance.
The website also alleges an “unholy alliance” between the CPI(M) and the BJP, claiming that the Chief Minister is cultivating a relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to evade central agency investigations and cover up corruption.
Adding a participatory element, the campaign prominently displays a mobile number — 9052 600 900 — asking the public to call, record complaints after hearing beeps, and contribute directly to what the Congress projects as a people-driven campaign.
