18-year-old’s high-speed drive leaves one critically injured in Keralam
Despite colliding with several vehicles and suffering a tyre burst, the car continued along the busy Vazhoor Road, with sparks flying from its damaged wheel.
An 18-year-old allegedly drove at high speed from Payippad to Thengana Kannavatta (Changanassery) in Keralam, ramming several vehicles and injuring multiple people on Tuesday evening.
The driver, Gokul Vinu, a native of Thiruvalla, hit a woman riding a scooter near Asharimukku and ran over the vehicle, destroying it. The woman was thrown onto the roadside and escaped serious injury.
Despite colliding with several vehicles and suffering a tyre burst, the car continued along the busy Vazhoor Road, with sparks flying from its damaged wheel. Residents chased the vehicle and eventually intercepted it near Kannavatta after its exposed wheel rim began scraping the road.
The exact number of injured persons is yet to be confirmed. One person is reportedly in critical condition, while several others have sought treatment at private hospitals in the area.
Police took Gokul into custody amid protests from an angry crowd.
Thrikkodithanam SHO Sunil told South First that the driver was suspected to be under the influence of intoxicants. His blood samples have been collected and sent for medical examination.
The police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a) and 125(b) of the BNSS, along with Sections 134(a) and 134(b) of the MV Act. The driver will be produced before the court following further investigation, the SHO said.
